When I was a kid I watched HBOs 'The Pacific' with my dad on Thursday nights.
We both identified with the American soldiers even though we (especially dad's dark Cantonese ass) looked a lot more like the Japanese enemy than any of their gauntly handsome American counterparts.
This was one of many times that I, as a kid and later as a young adult, suspended my race to relate to media that I consumed.
To enter many fantasy worlds it is necessary to do mental bleaching (ever see any dark skin in Lord of a Rings that didn't belong to an orc?) This performance is a Re-coloring of my childhood fantasy of American war. In it I played all ten hours of HBO 'Pacific' filling in for all of the Asian characters. This performance is an exercise to return a consciousness of my race to a show for which I once suspended it.
